Meet Kim M. Ferry…aka “HairFerry”

Meet Kim Ferry

Kim M. Ferry is one of the most sought-after Celebrity Hairstylists in the business.  She has forged a notable career in Television, Film, Editorial and as an Online Educator in Social Media outlets. Her talents were first given the chance to shine in the publications; Bride, Biography, Details, Emmy Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Glamour, GQ, In Style, Los Angeles Magazine, Makeup Artist Magazine, Modern Bride, People, People Weekly, Teen People, Rolling Stone, Seventeen, TV Guide, Us, Us Weekly, Vanity Fair, and Vogue. Kim then moved into Television and Film and became a visible styling influence on many hit shows such as Pretty Little Liars, Famous In Love, Stuck in the Middle, The Office, ER, Pacific Blue, Faking It, Bunheads, The Nine Lives of Chloe King, Veronica Mars, Failsafe, Crusade and Babylon 5.

Kim is perhaps most known for toiling over the tresses of celebrities including Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Kristen Bell, Steve Carrell, Jenna Fischer, Ronni Hawk, Angela Kinsey, John Krasinski, Jenna Ortega, Janel Parrish, Sasha Pieterse, Mindy Kaling, Daniel Dae Kim, Amanda Seyfried, Ian Harding, Tyler Blackburn, Keegan Allen, Skyler Samuels, James Spader and many more we don’t have space to mention.

Considering her career has spanned 30 years, it’s not surprising that Kim’s ‘HairFerry’ Hot Spot mats are gaining fans daily. Her experience as a salon hairstylist and now a respected celebrity hairstylist in Hollywood, has truly helped Kim distinctly see what tools were in abundance and what items were clearly missing in an already ‘over saturated’ hair care industry.

Kim launched her company with HairFerry “Hot Spots”, heat mats for all types of Hot Irons. They came in 10 bright and bold colors. They were an immediate success and flew off the shelves of Frends Beauty Supply, Hollywood’s #1 destination for professional supplies.  The mats are a “must have” for celebrities and influential ‘entertainment industry’ hair stylists and makeup artists.  HairFerry Hot Spots are compact for easy travel. The HairFerry line is not only for the Pros…HairFerry products have spread to households across the globe. At first, these Hot Spot mats were only seen on film sets and touch up stations on stages throughout Los Angeles. A popular item spotted in many Hair and Makeup trailers in Hollywood. Now, Kim’s mats are seen in beauty schools, local hair salons, household kitchens, and even used for arts & crafts-a great place to rest a hot glue gun! You can own one that will match your home, school or office!

Currently, Kim has finished filming the 7th and final season of ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” and the popular Disney Channel’s show “Stuck in the Middle”.  As the Department Head of Hair, Kim is responsible for overseeing hairstyles on all actors, stunt teams, photo doubles and background in every single episode.  Next show will be “The Last Man on Earth” which starts in August 2017!

Working full time on set, Kim juggles running the Hair Dept on hit shows, being a single mother of two, Executive Board Member for Hairstylists & Makeup Artists Local 706 and a Blogger/Educator for fans & new hairstylists getting into the show business arenas.

As a top expert in the hottest hairstyling trends, Kim was asked to film a series of “How To” hairstyling videos on Joyus.com for their “Beauty Bootcamp” series, also some 2 min hair videos for Beauty Launchpad Magazine.  It has been a great opportunity to share her “Tricks of the Trade” and offer simple steps that breakdown any hairstyle so anyone at home can have the look of ‘Hollywood Glam”.

Even though the hours in production are long and the schedule hectic, Kim, known as the “HairFerry” in the business, is excited to be developing even more innovative items to add to her line and join her Hot Spot mats. HairFerry Inc has found a loyal following, as well as being honored with industry accolades and positive word of mouth by her peers. A YouTube video series on how to re-create all of the hairstyles you have seen on TV is in the works! Kim really wants to breakdown the looks that she designed so anyone can do them. She loves to educate and share her Hollywood tips on hairstyles with anyone who wants to learn!

In her (limited) free time, she enjoys baking for co-workers on set, and for her kids at home.  For years, Kim volunteers for St. Baldrick’s Organization.  Kim has ‘shaved for the brave’ to help support the volunteer driven charity since 2008.  Each year (near St. Patrick’s Day) donations are collected by thousands of firefighters, policemen and volunteers like Kim help to raise awareness and fund research for children in treatment.  It is truly an outstanding, commendable organization dedicated to children in need. Kim has personally been affected by the loss of  both parents to Cancer. Helen Ferry and Vance Ferry could not beat the disease. Kim knows all too well what the Cancer treatments and trials can do to families. She has pledged to remain a volunteer for St. Baldrick’s until a cure is found.

Born in Gurnee, Illinois and raised in a big mid-western family, Kim moved from her small hometown in late 1992 to live in Los Angeles, California and pursue her passion and dream career of being a celebrity hairstylist.  This experience opened up a whole new world for Kim as she quickly learned to appreciate the beauty of different cultures, the amazing creativity of hairstyling for show business and the stunning sunsets and warm weather of California.

Kim enjoys doing interviews on hair trends and techniques for magazines, newspapers and online websites who want to tap into her “Hollywood Hair” advice. Kim is also a guest lecturer and educator for the “On Set” hairstyling industry. She speaks about her experience with starting a small business, the trials of manufacturing here in the U.S. and how anyone with a dream of being a Celebrity Hairstylist can pursue “the biz” as a viable career choice.

Being a single mom and entrepreneur brings creative challenges that motivate her to strive for excellence in her products and career. But if you ask her what her favorite job has been? She will say- being a mother of two boys who constantly amaze her and keep her smiling daily.  Kim is truly grateful for the small things, big things and everything in between.
